Obesity is not always due to lack of physical activity and poor nutrition. Obesity is a complex disease for which the course is often set in childhood. The obesity problem is often solved by gastric bypass surgery, which leads to a huge weight reduction and thus inevitable skin excess. Dr. Jens Altmann from the Bodenseeklinik on the various reduction methods in the MEDICAL.
The skin does not regress quickly enough after a strong and above all rapid weight reduction – and if at all completely. Large skin aprons are formed which can only be removed by means of surgical interventions. The reasons that speak for an operation are not only aesthetic in nature – there are also medical indications: inflammation, fungal infections and wound-related areas can arise under the skin aprons, which increase the already existing psychological burden of the patients.
Skin tightenings are usually carried out on the upper arm, on the thigh, on the chin ("turkey neck") and on the abdominal wall - the latter procedure can also include the abdominal button correction (umbilicoplasty), in which the abdominal button is "moved" to the right place. Stretch marks can also be a result of obesity (also the result of severe muscle loss or overtaken pregnancies)
Laser treatments, microneedling, radiofrequency thermal and other methods come into consideration as treatment methods – also in combination. Occasionally, even partial liposuction makes sense if the rapid weight reduction has been uneven.
