Face Lifting

Then you are one of the more and more numerous women and men who do not want to put up with their wrinkles, but want to look how they feel: young, fit and energy-packed. A facelift in the Bodenseeklinik makes you look years younger.

Face lifting is the high art of cosmetic surgery – Prof. Mang: The Bodenseeklinik is a centre for face lift surgery. Patients come from all over the world. The crucial point is the preservation of the individuality of the character of man. A face lift should make people look younger, but not changed.

In the meantime, more than 6,000 procedures have been carried out in the Bodenseeklinik.

This is what Prof. Mang and Dr. Altmann

Face Lifting – BodenseeKlinik

At 60, look again like at 20?

Such radical rejuvenation desires are of course not feasible. However, Prof. Mang and Dr. Altmann can win for several years with their sophisticated face lifting methods.

The experienced surgeon has the individual solution for each face. While for one patient a mini-lift is sufficient for a fresh and youthful appearance, for the other patient the tightening of the entire face and neck area is recommended (face and neck lift as SMAS lift or deep plane lift).

This is why the awareness-raising interview is of great importance when you are considering a facelift. Let the doctor of your choice show you photos of already lifted patients. So you see what is feasible and with which result you can expect.

A facelift is certain pre-existing conditions or in the case of disorders prohibiting prolonged surgery, not possible.

Why Face Lifting?

With increasing age, the skin elasticity diminishes and the muscles under the skin relaxes. Skin and fatty tissue follow gravity and sink down. Non-operative procedures such as injections, laser treatments or radiofrequency therapies may include: But with a facelift, it is possible to bring the sagged tissue back to its original place, especially in the forehead, cheek and neck areas.

The interventions differ – depending on the age – in scope and method

What age is optimal for a facelift?
This cannot be answered in general terms. We believe that each face must be treated individually at each age period in order to achieve optimal surgical results.
Face Lifting: for a relaxed and natural look
This is why we carry out in our clinic 3-stage lifting according to Professor Mang, in which the extent of the cut depends on the extent of skin ageing. Only the experienced aesthetic facial surgeon can optimally treat the units forehead, temporal region, eye area, nasolabial mouth region without correcting too much ("mask face") or too little (no convincing result). A successful facelift should not be recognizable for everyone at first glance – the lifted face should only look fresher, younger and "well-rested"!
Local anesthesia or general anesthesia?
Basically, a facelift is performed in general anesthesia. For a "large" lift, which requires extensive skin cuts, we generally recommend general anesthesia, whereby smaller lifts are also carried out in local anesthesia in twilight sleep. We also use the tumescence technique for facelifting, because with this method there is hardly any fear of swelling and bruising and the scars are almost invisible.
Stage 1 - the gentle method for patients around the age of 40
The M-lift is also known as the mini-lift or Mang-lift and is a special one by Prof. Mang developed lifting process. This gentle form of lift is particularly suitable for patients around 40 years of ageing. Thanks to the mini-cuts, you are already socially acceptable again after eight days. And best of all: The M-Lift makes you look 10 years younger after just one hour!

The cut used in the M-lift is a special method according to Prof. Mang. To tighten the skin, only a small cut above the ear, a cut in the ear and another one behind the earlobe are necessary. From the hairline to the tragus (the small suppository of cartilage that lies on the ear in front of the outer ear canal), a mini-cut is made and from this cut the skin is detached to the nasolabial region and then tightened. Often we combine stage 1 lifting with collagen injections or we smooth wrinkles in the lateral eye area, over the root of the nose or in the nasolabial area with the laser.

What makes this cutting technique so special is that it leaves no scars and poses no danger to nerves and vessels. Nearly no skin has to be detached to smooth the face (unlike the facelift).

Stage 2 - for patients between 40 and 65 years
In this method, which we use mainly in patients between 40 and 65 years old, we place an S-shaped cut, which ends 2 to 3 cm above the earlobe in the fold behind the auricle. In this age group, the skin is no longer so tight and often there are "hanging bakers". From the earcut, we prepare towards the forehead, nose and chin to tighten the sagging tissue in the temporal, nasolabial and chin-neck areas. Excess skin and subcutaneous fat tissue is removed and the facial skin is pulled towards the ear and sutured.
Stage 3 - for patients over 65 years
We use this most comprehensive lifting method in over 65-year-olds, when the entire face in the temporal, cheek and neck area has already sagged. After the tumescence solution is injected under the skin, we place the skin incision, which is based on the patient's hairline: The cut begins above the auricle attachment, runs downward in front of the ear and rearward around the earlobe attachment up to the neck region. The skin cut is mainly in the hairline and is only easily visible in front of the ear.

In step 3 lifting, the facial and neck skin is prepared over a large area from its support, the tissue is tightened and excess skin and subcut fatty tissue is cut out. We pull the remaining flap of skin laterally and upwards and sew the wound with a fine thread. So that wound secretion can work well, we put a drainage – a thin tube into the wound area. This is usually removed 48 hours postoperatively.

The procedures are carried out under local anesthesia or anesthesia. So you'll be fit again quickly. However, we recommend that you stay stationary with us at the Bodenseeklinik for at least one night.

After the facelift

The day after the operation, the bandage and, if present, the drainage are removed. To counteract swelling, we recommend cold applications. In order for the detached skin to heal well, they should spare themselves for a week. We recommend sleeping on your back during this time.

Bleedings, thread drawing, time-outs

Bleedings can occur during any surgical procedure, as well as a face lift. They heal on their own. Only very rarely does a bruise have to be extracted. Plan for a face lift 2-3 weeks of healing.

Combining with other methods

Deep wrinkles from the nostrils to the corners of the mouth, upper and lower lip wrinkles, forehead folds or pronounced crow feet cannot be ironed completely "smoothly" with a facelift alone.

In these cases, it may be useful to combine the facelift with other methods, such as a Peeling – or Laser treatment or with Botulinum toxin- or hyaluronic acid injections. In addition, we recommend repetitive treatment with collagen activators such as PRP (vampire lifting), polynucleotides or poly-lactic acid after the face lift in order to secure the result of the face lift in the long term.
