What is Lipofilling / Own Fat Treatment?
In Lipofilling – also called autofat injection – fatty tissue is gently removed with a special method in the Bodenseeklinik, processed and injected again. Since only the body’s own tissue is used, the risk of allergy is extremely low.
The procedure of injecting endogenous fat is suitable for aesthetic wrinkle treatment on the face and on parts of the body such as the chest, on the butt lift (Brazilian Butt Lift, BBL), on the hands and eyes, and for reconstructive treatment after previous operations or injuries to compensate for loss of volume and the treatment of scars.

The autologous fat treatment is also suitable for improving the contour after external interventions or accidents. Examples are:

Treatment sequence
- Consulting & planning – analysis of proportions, the area around the transplant site, photo documentation, setting realistic goals within the framework of an introduction in our plastic surgery consultation.
- Treatment – fat removal – gentle e.g. on the abdomen, hips, thighs or knees in tumescence local anesthesia on request with twilight sleep. As part of the fat extraction method, fat cushions can also be extracted over a large area in order to achieve contouring of the body.
- Treatment – preparation – cleaning and conditioning of adipose tissue.
- Injection – precise, fan-shaped autofat injection on the face, cheeks and eyes with fine, blunt disposable cannulas for wrinkle injection, treatment of superficial facial wrinkles, improvement of the skin.
Stunning, duration & implementation
- Stunning method: The procedure is carried out in tumescence local anesthesia also on request in twilight sleep, which increases patient comfort; in the case of relatively large combination interventions, e.g. General anesthesia.
- Duration of liposuction to remove adipose tissue and autologous injection on the face: 1–2 hours depending on the area.

Behavior After Lipofilling
- Cooling the treated areas reduces swelling.
- Compression clothing at removal points as directed.
- Avoid sports/sweating/heat (sauna, sun) for about 2 weeks.
- It shows a result immediately after Lipofilling on the face. The result after healing is after approx. 3 months visible if transplanted fat cells are stably integrated.
Checks after Lipofilling on the Face and Downtime
- We recommend checks after one week and another after 6 months. Depending on the extent of the lipofilling on the face, further appointments can be arranged.
- The downtime is about 1 week after Lipofilling. Light physical activities and work in the home office are possible.
- We recommend wearing compression linen in the area of fat extraction for 2 weeks. If liposuction has been performed in this area for body shaping to improve the appearance, the bodice should be worn for 6-8 weeks.
- UV protection on the face is recommended after healing to preserve the result of lipofilling.

How Long Does Lipofilling Keep Your Face
Lipofilling on the face can lead to long-term and permanent volume maintenance (a large part of fat cells permanently grows).
Risks & Possible Complications of Lipofilling
Despite gentle technique, temporary swelling, bruising and asymmetries are possible during lipofilling. Rarely do infections or palpable hardening occur.
The procedure "Lipofilling" is standardized at the Bodenseeklinik from admission to implementation until discharge. This serves to minimize risks. An individual education about opportunities and limits takes place before each intervention in an objective and standardized manner.
Costs & Influence Factors
The costs depend on the treatment areas of the respective person, the extent of the volume build-up, the number of sessions and, if applicable, combined procedures. A binding calculation of the prices of the Lipofilling will be provided after personal examination and advice. The cost of an autologous fat injection starts from 2000€ plus incidental costs.
