The Cryotherapy – The use of cold to cure diseases or promote health – has a long tradition. Beautiful doctors like Hippocrates recommended the beneficial effects of cold on the body – and who does not know the Kneipp cure?
For some, the rainpot is full of ice-cold water, others, especially performance poortlers, go to special cold chambers, in which there are about minus 150 degrees. But not only competitive athletes benefit from this – cold therapy is also used to cure inflammatory diseases such as rheumatism, migraines, orthopaedic problems, skin diseases and even depression.
Especially for pain treatments, cold treatment is very effective: "The use of painkillers, especially in rheumatism patients, could be reduced up to 60 percent." says the sports medicine Enrico Zessin. His colleague Dr. Jens Altmann, senior physician of the Bodenseeklinik and Secretary General of the International Society for Aesthetic Medicine (IGÄM) says: The cold revitalizes the irritated skin, discomfort is alleviated and can actually completely subside.
