Professor Dr Werner Mang He likes to share his knowledge with others and often tells about his work life. Now a column appears regularly in the magazine BUNTE – written by the master himself. Five columns are on Colourful. De already appeared. Read more in Online magazine of Bunte!
Prof. Dr. Werner Mang is chief physician of the largest clinic for aesthetic surgery in Germany and president of the International Society for Aesthetic Medicine. For bunte.de he regularly reports about his everyday life in the Bodenseeklinik, about celebrity ORs and the latest trends in beauty and health. In the five columns published so far, you will learn a lot about the world of cosmetic surgery, the people, the procedures and some of life’s destiny. Professor Mang also talks a lot about the fascination with his profession, which gives him strength to continue – and about some of the fates that still move him after years.
Plastic and aesthetic surgery is not just about noses – far from it, for example, one thinks of fire victims such as Marc David Jung, whose four-year-old face was burned beyond recognition in the Ramstein disaster in 1988. Professor Mang has operated on him several times since 1990 – he has not only given this person a face that can be described as near-normal. It is a face that also "works" in purely biological terms – the man who is Marc David Jung today can breathe, see, smell and smile normally – and recently got married. So it’s not just about beauty, but about quality of life, often about life itself.
Every patient is his own, every intervention and every case is different – the consideration of personal concerns is always required. Sometimes a general anesthesia is not announced – for example, if the vocal cords of a singer are spared, an operation in the so-called "dawn sleep" can take place. It is important to keep "beauty and sparing" in the right proportion as far as possible – always according to the motto: "health before beauty".
You will learn why more and more men undergo surgery – and why aesthetic procedures are still a taboo topic for many men. Last but not least, Professor Mang also gives a few clear warnings, for example about the surgical tourism abroad, where money can be saved, but where different standards apply than in Germany. And he also warns about certain irrational beauty ideals, about strange developments on the Internet – and what all this does to young people.
And sometimes it’s really just about a fresher look – You can learn how the Oktoberfest in Munich affects everyday practice – the "Wiesn makeover" for the cult event as a seasonal phenomenon.
But what is necessary for a life worth living can be individually different – for some it is a restored, normal appearance, for others it is a hump on the nose, which interferes with the morning look in the mirror.
